Editorial Policy

Last updated: July 12, 2026

Welcome to the WaoFam Editorial Policy. As a news publisher and blogging platform, WaoFam is committed to delivering accurate, fair, and trustworthy information to our readers. This policy outlines the standards, ethics, and practices that guide our journalists, editors, and guest contributors.

1. Core Journalistic Principles

Our editorial decisions are driven by the following core values:

  • Accuracy: We strive to get the facts right. We prioritize accuracy over speed and will not publish unverified rumors as fact.
  • Fairness: We aim to present multiple sides of a story and provide context so readers can understand the full picture.
  • Independence: Our editorial team operates independently of our advertising department, sponsors, and political interests.
  • Harm Minimization: We balance the public’s right to know with the potential harm that publication might cause, particularly concerning minors, victims of crime, and marginalized communities.

2. Fact-Checking and Sourcing

Rigorous fact-checking is the foundation of our newsroom:

  • Verification: All news reports must be verified by our editorial staff before publication. We seek primary sources whenever possible.
  • Attribution: We clearly identify our sources. We link to original documents, official statements, and primary reports to allow readers to verify the information themselves.
  • Anonymous Sources: We use anonymous sources sparingly and only when the information is of high public interest, the source is reliable, and the information cannot be obtained any other way. We will explain to our readers why the source requested anonymity.

3. Corrections and Updates

Transparency is key to building trust. When we make a mistake, we own it and correct it promptly.

  • Corrections: If a factual error is discovered in an article, it will be corrected within the text, and an editor’s note will be added to the top or bottom of the article explaining what was changed and when.
  • Updates: For developing stories, we will clearly note when an article has been updated with new information.
  • Takedowns: We do not "unpublish" or delete articles simply because they are controversial. An article will only be removed in extreme cases, such as severe legal violations (e.g., copyright infringement or court orders), in which case an editor's note will replace the content.

4. The Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI)

WaoFam embraces technology but strictly maintains human editorial oversight. Our stance on AI is as follows:

  • Human-Led Journalism: All articles published on WaoFam are reviewed, fact-checked, and approved by human editors. We do not publish raw, unedited AI-generated news articles.
  • AI as an Assistant: Our team may use AI tools to assist with tasks such as transcribing interviews, proofreading, summarizing complex data, or brainstorming headlines.
  • AI Images: If an AI-generated image or illustration is used as an article header, it will be clearly labeled and watermarked as "AI-Generated Illustration." We will never use AI to alter news photography in a way that deceives the reader.

5. News vs. Opinion (Op-Eds and Guest Blogs)

WaoFam serves as both a news outlet and a platform for diverse viewpoints. We ensure a strict separation between objective reporting and opinion:

  • News Articles: Straightforward reporting based on facts, without the author's personal opinions.
  • Op-Eds & Blogs: Articles containing subjective viewpoints, commentary, or personal narratives will be clearly labeled as "Opinion," "Editorial," or "Guest Blog." The views expressed in these sections belong solely to the author and do not necessarily reflect the views of WaoFam.

6. Advertising and Sponsored Content

To keep our content free, we rely on advertising. However, advertisers have no influence over our editorial coverage.

  • Separation: There is a strict wall between our editorial staff and our advertising operations.
  • Sponsored Content: Any article, video, or social media post that is paid for by a sponsor will be distinctly labeled as "Sponsored," "Paid Partnership," or "Promoted Content."
  • Affiliate Links: If we include affiliate links in product reviews, a disclaimer will be prominently displayed stating that we may earn a commission from purchases made through those links.

7. User-Generated Content and Comments

We encourage lively, respectful debate in our comment sections and community forums. However, we have zero tolerance for:

  • Hate speech, discrimination, or racism.
  • Harassment, threats, or personal attacks against authors or other readers.
  • Spam, malicious links, or deliberate misinformation.

Our moderation team reserves the right to remove any comments that violate these guidelines and to ban users who repeatedly breach our policies. For more details, please review our Terms of Service.
